SEC Proposes Rules to Enhance and Standardize Climate-Related Disclosures

Client memorandum | March 25, 2022

On March 21, 2022, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) proposed a comprehensive set of climate-related disclosure requirements that, if adopted as proposed, would require SEC registrants, including both U.S. domestic companies and foreign private issuers, to provide expansive qualitative and quantitative climate-related information in their registration statements and periodic reports filed with the SEC. Taken together, the information called for in the proposed rule would represent a significant expansion of SEC registrant disclosure requirements.
