Samuel Groner Honored by the Rabbinical Council of America for Pro Bono Work

Accolades | May 20, 2019

Litigation partner Samuel P. Groner was honored by the Rabbinical Council of America (RCA) at its annual convention on May 20 for his dedication to the RCA and his successful defense of the organization in consolidated class action litigation in DC Superior Court against former RCA member Rabbi Bernard Freundel and four religious institutions, including the RCA. The lawsuit asserted claims against the RCA and the other religious institutions for, among other things, negligence and failure to supervise Rabbi Freundel. Under Mr. Groner’s direction, the RCA vigorously contested the allegations. In October 2018, the court approved a settlement whereby the claims against the RCA were dismissed with prejudice and the RCA received a full release. Mr. Groner personally devoted nearly 600 hours to this pro bono representation and the Fried Frank team devoted over 1700 hours.

The Rabbinical Council of America is the leading non-profit, professional association of Orthodox rabbis in North America.
