Fried Frank Continues to Grow Asset Management Practice with Arrival of Jason Koenig

News releases | November 28, 2022

Fried Frank announced today that Jason Koenig has joined the firm as a partner in the Asset Management Practice, based in New York. Koenig joins the firm from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where he was a senior counsel in the private funds practice. He previously served in various in-house counsel roles at Morgan Stanley Investment Management.

Koenig advises global asset management clients on a wide range of strategies in private equity, venture and private debt. He has experience counseling sponsors on various legal, regulatory and strategic issues, including fund structuring, fundraising, limited partner negotiations, management of funds, conflicts management and carry plans.

“Jason is a key addition as we continue to strategically expand our market-leading global Asset Management Practice,” said Lawrence N. Barshay, founder and head of the firm's Asset Management Practice. “He brings deep experience advising asset management companies and will be a valuable partner for the practice and our clients.”

“We’re proud to welcome Jason to the firm,” said David J. Greenwald, chairman of Fried Frank. “His background and experience will be a great addition to Fried Frank and the services we provide to our asset management clients.”

Fried Frank’s Asset Management Practice continues a period of strategic growth with the addition of Koenig, which follows the recent arrival of partners Russel Perkins, Philip Heimowitz, Dorothy Mehta, Rami Turayhi and Jeffrey Wolf Schatz, as well as the promotions of Menachem Farber and Piers Harris to partner earlier this year.

Led by Barshay and Kenneth I. Rosh in the US, and partner Kate Downey in Europe, Fried Frank’s global Asset Management Practice provides top-tier advice on all aspects of funds, managed accounts and other investment vehicles, including fund formation, negotiation of managed accounts and advisory agreements, structuring management companies and compensation arrangements, spinouts, seeding and stakes transactions, documentation of prime brokerage and other trading arrangements and advice regarding ongoing operations. The practice is consistently top-ranked by Chambers and Partners and Legal 500, and has been recognized as one of Law360's Practice Groups of the Year for Fund Formation twice in the past three years.
