Our summer program

Our 10-week summer program offers substantive training in real world legal and business situations for our sophisticated, global clients. As the primary route for accomplished and highly motivated law students looking to join our firm, you’ll be in the thick of it right from the start, working side-by-side with our lawyers at client meetings, negotiations, closings, court appearances and depositions. You’ll also participate in pro bono work for individuals and organizations in our local communities and beyond, along with community service volunteer opportunities.

Some summer associates may want to focus on a particular practice group immediately, while others want to try out a range of practice areas before choosing a focus. You can determine your own path and choose to take on work from as many or as few practice areas as you like.

Every summer associate benefits from one-on-one mentoring by partners and associates who will guide and support you throughout the program. We offer competitive compensation, including judicial clerk bonuses. We know balance is important, so you'll also have time to explore New York or Washington, DC and engage with your new colleagues at lunches, dinners, and firm events. Our goal is for each of our summer associates to receive—and accept—an offer to join our firm.

New York

With approximately 300 attorneys, Fried Frank's New York office promises to offer work with big clients on big issues, while still being small enough in size to actually know each other. Fried Frank attorneys and staff have a one-office mentality and enjoy working regularly with attorneys in other Fried Frank offices.

The summer associate program is highly valued by our attorneys as a large percentage of our partners and associates joined us right out of law school after participating in our summer program.

Washington, DC

With approximately 90 attorneys, Fried Frank's Washington, DC office provides a smaller, more intimate working environment that allows attorneys the opportunity to work on a variety of matters of New York City caliber, while also enjoying the benefits of living in the DC area. Fried Frank attorneys and staff have a one-office mentality and enjoy working regularly with attorneys from across the other Fried Frank offices.
