Fried Frank Receives the OAD Gideon Award

Fried Frank received the Gideon Award from the Office of the Appellate Defender (OAD) at its 26th annual gala & First Monday in October mock Supreme Court argument on October 7, 2019. Litigation partner Peter L. Simmons accepted the award on behalf of the Firm. The Gideon Award, named for the landmark case of Gideon v. Wainwright, which established the right of indigent defendants to legal representation in criminal cases, honors a law firm that has demonstrated exemplary commitment to indigent appellate defense through its participation in OAD’s Volunteer Appellate Defender program. The program provides counsel from sponsoring law firms to indigent individuals convicted of felonies in appeals to the New York State Appellate Division, First Department, in cooperation with OAD Supervising Attorneys. Fried Frank has handled 74 OAD cases over the past 20+ years.
