Fried Frank Named DC Bar Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year

Accolades | May 5, 2020

Fried Frank was named Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year by the DC Bar as part of its 2020 Annual Awards. The awards honor those who have worked tirelessly to improve the profession and the greater legal community through public service, volunteer work, and development of new projects and initiatives.

The Firm was recognized for its continued long-term commitment to improving the lives of those in the Washington, DC community, and for devoting almost 2,900 hours to pro bono service on behalf of the city’s low-income residents.

In its press release, the DC Bar highlighted the Firm’s innovative collaboration with Tzedek DC, through which corporate, tax, and real estate attorneys represent low-income Washington, DC residents in defending against consumer or tax debt collection actions. The project has succeeded by bringing together three critical components: a local nonprofit with strong leadership and excellent training and mentoring; a client population with critical legal needs; and a ready pool of legal talent, with tax partner Michael J. Alter providing enthusiastic hands-on leadership. To date, at least 36 lawyers have been involved in 12 separate matters, with more in the pipeline.

The DC Bar’s release also recognized the Firm’s expanded participation in the DC Bar Pro Bono Center’s Nonprofit and Small Business Legal Assistance Programs and its continued support of the Center’s Advice & Referral Clinic and Landlord Tenant Resource Center.
