Fried Frank represented Julio V. in terminating removal proceedings and applying for Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) Status. Julio was referred to the Firm from The Door, which provides various services, including legal services, to at risk youth in New York City. Julio's father passed away, and his mother let her partner beat him severely, and starve him, in Peru. After a particularly violent incident, he traveled when he was 15 to live with his brothers in the Hudson Valley. Fried Frank got the Immigration Court to terminate proceedings and let him apply for SIJ status. Because he was from Peru (and not Central America or Mexico), Julio's case proceeded rapidly and he is now a Lawful Permanent Resident.
The Fried Frank team included litigation special counsel Jennifer L. Colyer, restructuring and insolvency associate Carl I. Stapen, corporate associate Steven M. Czurlanis, and pro bono coordinator Stella Drevina.
