Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP announced today that corporate partner Kate Downey has been appointed head of its European Private Equity Funds Practice.
Ms. Downey, who joined Fried Frank in 2015, has played an integral role in the growth and development of the Asset Management Practice since her arrival alongside Mark Mifsud, a leading partner in the practice and managing partner of the London office. In her new role, Ms. Downey will continue the alignment of the practice in London with the Firm's focus on advising clients on their most complex and sophisticated matters. Rosh, the head of the Firm's Private Equity Funds Practice, on the further advancement of this premiere international practice.
“Kate's appointment will help further elevate our already robust and thriving Asset Management Practice in London,” said David J. Greenwald, chairman of Fried Frank. “I have no doubt that Kate will excel in her new role. She and Mark are a fantastic team and I look forward to their continued work advising clients on their most challenging matters.”
Ms. Downey has extensive experience advising fund sponsors and financial institutions across a broad range of asset classes, including private equity, infrastructure, credit, venture and growth, and real estate. She also has considerable experience in a broad range of international private equity transactions, including secondary portfolio acquisitions and synthetic secondaries, fund and management company restructurings and other general corporate matters. Her clients include BlueBay Asset Management, iCON Infrastructure, BlackRock, Palatine Private Equity, Rutland Partners, APG Asset Management, amongst others. Outside Fried Frank, Ms. Downey co-chairs the European Committee of Women in Fund Finance, a group focused on the recognition and promotion of women leaders within the alternative investment fund finance industry.
On her appointment as head of the Firm's European Private Equity Funds Practice, Mr. Mifsud added, “Kate's in-depth knowledge of funds and focus on strategic growth opportunities not only make her a superb lawyer, but also make her a great leader. Having worked with Kate for many years, I have the utmost confidence in her ability to lead the practice. I look forward to continuing to work together to meet our clients' needs.”
