Fried Frank was honored for its pro bono support of The Door's Homeless & Runaway Youth Legal Clinic at Joining in Justice 2015 on Wednesday, May 13 in New York City. The cocktail reception benefitted The Door's Legal Services Center. Special Counsel Jennifer Colyer accepted the award on behalf of the Firm.
The Door's Homeless & Runaway Youth Clinic is one of the Association of Pro Bono Counsel's IMPACT projects, which are nationwide collaborative projects inspired by APBCo's board's meetings with Vice President Joe Biden. Fried Frank runs the Door's clinic in collaboration with Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett, and it is one of seven clinics serving homeless youth at various locations around the City. As an IMPACT project, each clinic is run collaboratively among legal services organizations, homeless shelters and private law firms.
The Door's clinic was launched by Fried Frank and Simpson Thacher in November 2013 and is held every other Wednesday; Fried Frank associates run the clinic once a month. Lawyers at the clinic advise young people on legal issues involving family law, criminal law (primarily transit tickets), name changes, foster care, education and immigration among others.
