Fried Frank's victory in Belvedere dispute reported by IFLR

International Financial Law Review (IFLR) reported Fried Frank's significant victory in the long-running Belvedere dispute, successfully defending an appeal by Belvedere before the Cour de Cassation on behalf of client Bank of New York Mellon. Corporate partner David Chijner (Paris), who led the Fried Frank team, commented on the importance of the decision with respect to international financing in France: "If the court had ruled that trustees are simply agents, then virtually nobody would do these issues. A large number of lawyers have been telling clients that if Belvedere goes the wrong way, it might not be sensible to be involved in this sort of instrument." The team also included corporate European counsel Noam Ankri (Paris), corporate partners Robert Mollen (London) and Sian Withey (London) and litigation partner David Morris (NY).
