Karen T. Grisez speaks with the New York Times about the impact of the closure of New York City's only immigration detention center

Washington, DC litigation special counsel Karen T. Grisez, who is also Chair of the ABA Commission on Immigration, is quoted in a New York Times article, "Move Further Isolates Immigrant Detainees," about the closure of New York City's only immigration detention center. Detainees from the facility are being sent to a New Jersey county jail, a move which has sparked criticism and protests. Regarding concern that the cost of long distance phone calls to the detainees' families and legal counsel in New York have increased 800%, Ms. Grisez commented, "We take this very seriously," and further noted that the ABA would look into the complaints and refer them to government authorities for further investigation.
