Fried Frank Recognized as One of the Best Law Firms for Women for Second Consecutive Year

Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP announced today that the Firm has been recognized as one of the 50 best law firms for women by Working Mother magazine for the second consecutive year. The 2009 Working Mother & Flex-Time Lawyers Best Law Firms for Women list, which recognizes the 50 best firms "who are leading the charge for change" for women, notes the achievement of law firms for their continued attention to work-life and women's issues and commitment to increased use of flex-time, reduced-hour and other family-friendly policies to ensure the future success of the profession.

Based on an annual national survey developed in partnership with Working Mother magazine and Flex-Time Lawyers LLC, the 2009 list takes into account a number of factors, including workplace profile; family-friendly benefits and policies; flexibility, leadership, compensation and advancement of women; and development and retention of women. In particular, Fried Frank was noted for:

  • Leadership – Employment of female equity partners was 18% vs. 16% nationwide;
  • Flexibility – Generous leave and flex-time policies including individual transition plans for maternity leave (extended to eligibility for 18 paid weeks), paternity leave (eligibility for 10 paid weeks), and expanded in-home elder-care and back-up child care accommodations;
  • Ensuring Work/Life Balance – Upon review of the Firm's reduced-hours and flexible work arrangements to ensure consistency across departments, Fried Frank's Work/Life Balance Subcommittee advocated for new supportive policies, including the appointment of a coordinator in the New York and Washington, D.C. offices to oversee alternative work schedules.

Fried Frank will be honored for this achievement on September 15, 2009, at the Gala Awards Luncheon, a special awards ceremony organized by Working Mother magazine and Flex-Time Lawyers LLC, in New York City.
