An August 8, 2007 Houston Chronicle article “HPD Review to Study 200 Lab Cases” on the Houston Police Department’s need to review 200 narcotics cases following the suspension of a crime lab analyst who mishandled evidence notes that Michael Bromwich, in his independent investigation, had recommended that the HPD hire a “special master” to further examine the many convictions that may have been tainted through faulty lab procedures.
