is a tax partner resident in Fried Frank's London office. He returned to the Firm as a partner in 2014, having served as an associate in Fried Frank's London Tax Group from 2005 to 2010. Mr. Thornton advises clients on the tax aspects of a range of transactions – particularly those with an international dimension – including M&A, asset purchases and sales, corporate restructurings, securities offerings, financings, and fund formations.
Before coming back to Fried Frank, he was head of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP's London Tax Practice. He has worked on complex tax issues for a number of major international clients including Persimmon PLC, Nissan North America, JP Morgan, Commerzbank AG, Carluccio's, Vivendi, Virgin Media, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Pirelli, SNAM SpA, and Edison Mission Energy.
In 2019, Mr. Thornton was appointed to serve as a member of the England and Wales Law Society's Tax Law Committee, one of the Law Society's specialist policy advisory committees.
