Joel Scharfstein

Joel Scharfstein joined the Firm in 1977 and was a tax partner resident in Fried Frank's New York office from 1984 to 2013.  In March 2013, he became of counsel upon his retirement as a partner.

Mr. Scharfstein's practice focuses on the tax aspects of corporate acquisitions and divestitures, partnership transactions, investment partnerships and restructurings.

He has published numerous tax related articles that have appeared in a wide variety of publications, including: NYU Institute on Federal Taxation; The Tax Lawyer; PLI Tax Strategies for Corporate Acquisitions, Dispositions, Spinoffs, Financings, Reorganizations and Restructurings; and PLI Tax Planning for Domestic and Foreign Partnerships, LLCs, Joint Ventures and other Strategic Alliances.
