Tax

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA)

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) is a government-sponsored effort designed to help low-to-moderate-income (generally $39,000 and below) people who cannot prepare their own tax returns.  Attorneys in Fried Frank's Washington, DC office participate in this program on a volunteer basis.  Volunteers receive training in basic tax return preparation, and then work with program participants in the preparation of their own tax returns.  In addition, Firm members assist and train VITA volunteers, and serve as advisors to volunteer attorneys, helping them to address more complicated tax questions and related issues.
